Welcome everybody!! The new task for this month is here.
Qualified Teachers´ Standards
Read the “Qualified Teachers´ Standards” and:
1.      Is there any standard you disagree with? Why?
2.       Choose the five most important standards that would apply to qualified teachers of English in Argentina and account for your choice.

  3. I don’t agree with standard number 13: “[Those recommended for the award of QTS (Q) should] Know how to use local and national statistical information to evaluate the effectiveness of their teaching, to monitor the progress of those they teach and to raise levels of attainment.” Taking into account that teachers work in different contexts and must adapt their teaching accordingly, it would be detrimental to their teaching practices – and also to their students’ learning processes – if teachers used national statistics to evaluate their teaching.

In my opinion, these are the five most important standards that would apply to qualified teachers of English in Argentina:

“[Those recommended for the award of QTS (Q) should]

Q1 Have high expectations of children and young people including a commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with them [This is of paramount importance because we won’t do our best to teach unless we are convinced that our students can achieve whatever they set out to do].

Q2 Demonstrate the positive values, attitudes and behaviour they expect from children and young people [As we always say, we should educate by setting the example].

Q19 Know how to make effective personalised provision for those they teach, including those (…) who have special educational needs or disabilities, and how to take practical account of diversity and promote equality and inclusion in their teaching [This is in keeping with the idea that school is no longer a place where differences should be suppressed; nowadays we encourage children to appreciate and respect differences instead. Although the ideas in this standard have my approval, I don’t think that “diversity” and “disability” should be put together in the same standard, since this may lead to serious misconceptions].

Q28 Support and guide learners to reflect on their learning, identify the progress they have made and identify their emerging learning needs [This has to do with metacognition and the development of autonomy, which are two elements that are usually neglected and that play a crucial role in our students’ development].

Q29 Evaluate the impact of their teaching on the progress of all learners, and modify their planning and classroom practice where necessary [We know that there are no fixed formulas in teaching, just as there are no two groups of students that are exactly the same, and that’s why we should always adapt our practices to fit the context in which we are teaching].”

  5. I dont disagree with any standard, I think that each standard is useful for our professional development.
In my opinion the five most important standards that would apply to QT of English in Argentina are:
Q1_ "Have high expectations of children and young people including a
commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational
potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and
    constructive relationships with them."
Trust in our students is the only way to engage with education, if we don´t trust them, teaching would be usless for us and for them. Neither us nor them would ever face a challenge...AND CHALLENGE MAKE US GROW.
Establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships whit children would lead a suitable work context, in which teacher and students would feel supported.
Q6_"Have a commitment to collaboration and co-operative working."
Teaching is a social activitie, we need to co-operate with the community members to reach to the highest objectives, and as English teachers I think that communication is one of the most importants objectives.
Human beings are social by nature , so co-operation leads to a common goal in Argentina society...EDUCATION!
Collaborate is a creation of unity through appreciating and celebrating diversity, students learn the attitudes, knowledge and skills that benefit all in the community and community members become partners in facilitating and expanding the learning process.
Q7_"(a) Reflect on and improve their practice, and take responsibility for
identifying and meeting their developing professional needs"
Reflective teaching is a process of self-observation and self-evaluation, teachers need to improve their practice all the time.
we should ask ourselves: Is my practice usefull for my students?am I choosing the best options for them?
Q10_"Have a knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching, learning and
behaviour management strategies and know how to use and adapt them,
including how to personalise learning and provide opportunities for all
    learners to achieve their potential."
Teachers must have the ability to apply their educational knowledge in a variety of contexts.
All the students have different skills, learning times and of course different intelligences, and the differences must be respected and valued.
We can respect and value the differences by following this QTS remeber that here in Argentina is very important to creat inclusion.
Q28_"Support and guide learners to reflect on their learning, identify the
progress they have made and identify their emerging learning needs."
Learners need to be involved in their own learning process to create meaninful connections between the contents they are learning.
They would take responsability for thining and learning themselves as well as be aware of their strengths and weaknesses.

  6. Hi everyone!
Concerning the article “Qualified Teachers´ Standards”, I don´t desagree with any standard. I think that each standard is meaningful for us to be good professionals in our own field.
In my opinion, the five most important standards that would apply to qualified teaches of English in Argentina are:
Q2 "Demonstrate the positive values, attitudes and behaviour they expect from children and young people". Although we know that Education begins at home, we should take advantage of each place or contenxt where we can transmit good values.
Q10 "Have a knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching, learning and behaviour management strategies and know how to use and adapt them, including how to personalise learning and provide opportunities for all learners to achieve their potential." Each student is different from another as well as each learning process. All of them have different times, different skills, and they are all different human beings. That is what should be respected above everything.
Q22 "Plan for progression across the age and ability range for which they are trained, designing effective learning sequences within lessons and across series of lessons and demonstrating secure subject/curriculum knowledge". It is very important to take in mind the different learning stages and to develop activities or make expectations according to the children's range.
Q28 "Support and guide learners to reflect on their learning, identify the progress they have made and identify their emerging learning needs" I consider this Q should STRONGLY be taken into account, as it is very important to reflect and to identify the progress that children make in order to develop their own autonomy.
Q32 "Work as a team member and identify opportunities for working with colleagues, sharing the development of effective practice with them".

    1. 1. There are different standards I disagree with. However, first of all, I want to make a comment on Professional attributes from General introduction to the QTS standards and ITT requirements.
It reads:” (…) Expectations relate to the teacher’s ability to: (…) communicate with others (…)”. Frankly speaking, this phrase has caught my attention because one of the characteristics considered to be “professional” is to be able to talk to, communicate with. Being this so, some people should be disregarded as teachers, since they do not know how to make themselves understood and even they do not how to speak with respect.

Having made this brief introduction, I will mention the items that, in my opinion, should be taken carefully.

      Delete
  7. -Achievement and diversity
Q 20 “Know and understand the roles of colleagues with specific responsibilities,
including those with responsibility for learners with special educational
needs and disabilities and other individual learning needs.”

English as a foreign language in Argentina does not receive much support from its neighboring subjects. This is why is too hard to try to understand or “to be aware of or be committed to” the specific responsibilities and roles of colleagues. According to El Ministerio de Educación, English in secondary school should be given just 2 modules per week, which generally are divided into two days. This is very discouraging because we do not have sufficient time to get to know our colleagues. The consequence is clear: the less I spend time with the other teachers, the less I will be devoted to their roles as well as their purposes and activities. I can understand them, but this will not do.

  8. -Health and well-being
Q 21 (b) “Know how to identify and support children and young people whose
progress, development or well-being is affected by changes or
difficulties in their personal circumstances, and when to refer them to
    colleagues for specialist support.”

Although this regulation is very accurate and important for us to have in mind, I have to point out the fact that being a student of any college training will not give us all the elements necessary for identifying and supporting. Where should I go for consult? Should I just tell the situation to my superiors and remain seated? If I do not have the sufficient experience on treating some specific matters, how will I know that I am in the presence of any danger?

    ReplyDelete
  9. -Professional skills
Q23 “Design opportunities for learners to develop their literacy, numeracy and
    ICT skills.”
I have found Literacy as: “the ability to read and write and the skill in a particular subject”. Again I have to raise the question: How will I manage to achieve this proposal if I only meet students 2 hours per week? Besides, we have to take into account that I can design all the opportunities I want to; however, this task will be hindered by the non- cooperation of colleagues and students, and the well-known “paros docentes”. I am not a kind of critic of education, but I have to share my concerns because this is what we face with at schools.

    -Learning environment

Q30 “Establish a purposeful and safe learning environment conducive to
learning and identify opportunities for learners to learn in out-of-school
    contexts.”
Safe learning environment? I think I have not understood well this phrase. I am not very sure about if safe learning environment refers to controlling security in schools or just to the aspect of making feel the students confident in class.

  10. -Entry requirements
    GCSE requirement
R1.1 “That all entrants have achieved a standard equivalent to a grade C in the
GCSE examination in English and mathematics, and that all who intend
to train to teach pupils aged 3-11 additionally have achieved a standard
equivalent to a grade C in the GCSE examination in a science subject.”
Does this statement mean that I cannot teach English because I have not finished my higher education? Do I need extra degrees on other subjects? Well, in my own experience, when teaching without having got your degree, you find some gaps in your knowledge and also your confidence can be affected. However, the point here is the quality of education that a student receives, not the teacher self-esteem. It is true that the best option is the teacher who has got his degree. But, it does not mean that I cannot teach .

    ReplyDelete
  11. got his degree. But, it does not mean that I cannot teach .
    R1.6 “That all entrants:
    (a) have the intellectual and academic capabilities needed to meet
    the required QTS standards;
    (b) possess the appropriate qualities, attitudes and values expected

    a. “Academic capabilities” a very questionable term. As far as I know, there are some teachers who have the syndrome of dawn, most of them unthinkable able to teach. So, what is the definition for capability? Who decides that you are or are not capable of doing something?
    b. “Appropriate qualities”? Which are those appropriate qualities? Where are those qualities regulated?

    ReplyDelete
  12. -Graduate, registered, overseas-trained teacher
    and Teach First programmes
R3.7 “That graduate, registered, overseas-trained teacher and Teach First programmes
comply with the General Conditions for the Graduate, Registered, Overseas-Trained
Teacher and Teach First (ITT element) Programmes in addition to the Secretary of
State’s current requirements for initial teacher training.”
I do not agree with this. The ones who have no experience on teaching would not be able to get a job at schools. If nobody gives you a shoot to begin as a teacher because you do not have any experience, when will you work then?

  13. 2. The five most important standards that I would apply to qualified teachers of English in Argentina are:
    • Have high expectations of children and young people including a commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with them.
I have chosen this phrase because students feel that nobody trust on them. So, the job starts at school and we should convince them that they are worthy and we are not wasting our time.
    • Be aware of the policies and practices of the workplace and share in collective responsibility for their implementation.

The previous sentence needs the support of this one, that is to say, everybody must work cooperatively in order to achieve a positive outcome.
    • Recognise and respect the contribution that colleagues, parents and carers can make to the development and well-being of children and young people, and to raising their levels of attainment.
Currently, at schools, there is a very common shared defect: the lack of respect. We all have the commitment to develop and show consideration to others. Remember: we are mates, not simply machines immune to verbal offences and apathy.

    ReplyDelete
  14. • Have a secure knowledge and understanding of their subjects/curriculum areas and related pedagogy to enable them to teach effectively across the age and ability range for which they are trained.
We are not isolated educators but a whole set of trainees seeking the same purpose: to teach effectively and to encourage a successful learning.

    • Evaluate the impact of their teaching on the progress of all learners, and modify their planning and classroom practice where necessary.
Education has undergone several negative modifications that have destroyed some areas of knowledge. Our goal is to detect those sensitive areas and modify them. Thus, we will give tools to the students to get advantage of their progress.

  16. As regards the article “Qualified Teachers Standards” I don´t actually disagree with any standard, I would say though that these standards need to be applied as a whole .It would be useless if teachers do not put time and effort into making them very real.

The five standards that I would apply to qualified teachers of English in Argentina are:

Relationships with children and young people:
Q1: Have high expectations of children and young people including a commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with them.
A teacher should always believe in his o her students ´s capabilities and never underestimate them. Therefore this standard is extremely important because it makes the teacher remind them that students need to be trusted.

    Communicating and working with others
Q4: Communicate effectively with children, young people, colleagues, parents and carers.
In education, open communication among the participants is vitally important .Some problems may arise if it is not present and the only way to solve them is, always, through communication.

    Personal professional development
Q7: a) Reflect on and improve their practice and take responsibility for indentifying and meeting their developing professional needs.
This is a highly controversial issue and still we need the work on its developing. Educators need to be aware of their professional needs. And as education changes permanently, we need to keep it up to date.

    Teaching and learning
Q10: Have a knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching, learning and behaviour management strategies and know how to use and adapt them, including how to personalise learning and provide opportunities for all learners to achieve their potential.

Each person has unique and distinctive characteristics which belongs to his o her personal background. In education, teacher should know that each student does not learn in the same way at the same time. That is why teachers should be aware of the wide range of theories and techniques of both, teaching and learning. In this way, the teacher will help students to improve their learning skills.

    Health and well-being
Q21: Know how to identify and support children and young people whose progress, development or well-being is affected by changes or difficulties in their personal circumstances, and when to refer them to colleagues for specialist support.
Regrettably, nowadays many problems may affect learners, most of them are related to social problems but cultural or familiar ones may also arise. Educators cannot work alone thus they have to work together with colleagues and specialist to face any unlikely situation.

  17. Hello all!
I am not against the standards that appear in the article “Qualified Teachers Standards”. Moreover, I think that each one is constructive and significant to become a qualified teacher.
I think, these are the five most important standards that would apply to qualified teachers of English in Argentina:
Q8: Have a creative and constructively critical approach towards innovation, being prepared to adapt their practice where benefits and improvements are identified.
[ Now a days, Creativity is very important to keep students motivated and hitched in this subject. If we can do this, students will be not be ashamed to be innovative.]
Q28: Support and guide learners to reflect on their learning, identify the progress they have made and identify their emerging learning needs.
[The idea of supporting and guiding our students is very important to keep them integrated and in an equal level]
Q29: Evaluate the impact of their teaching on the progress of all learners, and modify their planning and classroom practice where necessary.
[ Evaluation is not just an instance in which we give a mark to the students’ assessment, it also rates our way of teaching and shows us when to make a change in the learning process. ]
Q30: Establish a purposeful and safe learning environment conducive to learning and identify opportunities for learners to learn in out-of-school contexts.
[Linking our classroom and context is where the teacher finds all the tools and opportunities for learners to learn]
Q32: Work as a team member and identify opportunities for working with colleagues, sharing the development of effective practice with them.
[The idea of team working gives us new or better ways of planning our classes and preparing activities.]

  18. 1)No there aren’t. I think that every standard mentioned here in the text is very important for us. Also, I think all the standards mentioned are important to consider ourselves good teachers. These are good steps to help us succeed in our work with wisdom and intelligence.

    2) In my case these are the five more important standards that would apply to qualified teachers of English in Argentina:
Q8-Have a creative and constructively critical approach towards innovation,
being prepared to adapt their practice where benefits and improvements
    are identified.

Q9- Act upon advice and feedback and be open to coaching and mentoring.

Q10- Have a knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching, learning and
behaviour management strategies and know how to use and adapt them,
including how to personalise learning and provide opportunities for all
    learners to achieve their potential.

Q18- Understand how children and young people develop and that the progress
and well-being of learners are affected by a range of developmental,
social, religious, ethnic, cultural and linguistic influences.

Q 21b- Know how to identify and support children and young people whose
progress, development or well-being is affected by changes or
difficulties in their personal circumstances, and when to refer them to
    colleagues for specialist support

  19. I couldn´t say I disagree with any of the standards, even when I thought that Numeracy may be a concept that is not related with the teaching of English, I came to the conclusion that it is an ability that can be exploited for a better learning.
    However, I consider that:
Q18 developmental, social, religious, cultural and linguistic influences on learners
Q19 special educational needs or disabilities
Q20 acknowledge of the roles of colleagues with responsibilities to learners with special needs
These standards deal with issues that require full attention on the part of teachers and that are forsaken when it comes to government policies on education. The hours given per class are basic and cannot be lost even with matters of great relevance, such as inclusion and equality. I strongly agree that these issues must be taken into account, especially at school, but I think new positions should be created to cover all the needs learners may have and to provide a safer environment for teachers to accomplish their main goal: to teach.
I think almost every standard is relevant to teachers training, but I would like to highlight these five:
“Q1 Have high expectations of learners and ensure they can achieve their full potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with them.”
It has been proved that learners succeed at their highest level in a safe and caring environment where they feel they have support, respect and where they can build strong relationships among peers and with their teachers.
“Q6 Have a commitment to collaboration and co-operative working”
This commitment should be expected from both, learners and teachers to ensure the full participation of all of them and their full engagement.
“Q10 Have knowledge of a range of teaching, learning and behaviour management strategies and know how to use them for learners to achieve their potential.”
It is widely known that schools have become a place where teachers see their role drawn down to just taking care of children instead of teaching. Many factors have contributed to this: social problems, economic factors and family crisis in some cases. All of these problems reflect in learner’s behaviour during the class and turn the role of the teacher as one sometimes impossible to perform. Knowing various ways to deal with such attitudes can ensure the completion of the class as well as the well being of the learners in a whole.
“Q15 Know the relevant statutory and non-statutory curricula and frameworks including National Strategies according to subject, area, age and ability range.”
This knowledge can facilitate the teacher´s role as well as offering an instrument to rely on when it comes to selecting the contents to be taught.
“Q28 Support and guide learners to reflect on their learning”
This point taken as a final step in the learning process can easily consolidate it and turn it into a significant one. At this point I think that it is very important to work with learners on their values as a reflection on their learning process and their results.

  20. I disagree with two standards: Q 22 and Q 23.
The former says that the teacher must plan for progression across the age and ability range for which they are trained, designing effective learning sequences within lessons and across series of lessons and demonstrating secure/curriculum knowledge. I agree with the idea that contents, tasks and methodologies have to be in accordance with the learner´s stage of development to allow them to accommodate the new knowledge. However, I think the teacher not only has to demonstrate curriculum knowledge, but also he/she has to know how to communicate with learners and what strategies are the most appropriate in every situation.
The latter says that the teacher must design opportunities for learners to develop their literacy, numeracy and ICT skills. I believe they are not the only skills to develop. Howard Gardner suggests that people have several intelligences but in different proportions. So teachers should help students focus on those intelligences and develop the ones they have difficulties.
I consider that the five most important standards that I would apply to qualified teachers of English in Argentina are:
    • Have high expectations of children and young people including a commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with them.
    • Communicate effectively with children, young people, colleagues, parents and carers.
    • Understand how children and young people develop and that the progress and well-being of learners are affected by a range of developmental, social, religious, ethnic, cultural and linguistic influences.
    • Support and guide learners to reflect on their learning, identify the progress they have made and identify their emerging learning needs.
    • Work as a team member and identify opportunities for working with colleagues, sharing the development of effective practice with them.
In my opinion, teachers have to encourage students to achieve their educational potentials and to develop their cognitive skills. In order to do so, they need an extraordinary clarity of communication with learners, colleagues, parents and carers. According to Krashen, this interaction will avoid prejudices and allow the teacher to reach them as they have a low affective filter. Besides, the teacher also has to act as a guide and as a facilitator, working on learner´s mistakes to identify their needs. Finally, the teacher has to bear in mind that certain factors, such as cultural and emotional ones, influence people´s learning process.

  21. I do not disagree with any standard mentioned in this article. What is more, I think we have to consider each of them to become a professional of a high standard.
From my point of view, these are the five most important standards that would apply to qualified teachers of English in Argentina:
Q1 Have high expectations of children and young people including a commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with them.
Q10 Have a knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching, learning and behaviour management strategies and know how to use and adapt them, including how to personalise learning and provide opportunities for all learners to achieve their potential.
Q18 Understand how children and young people develop and that the progress and well-being of learners are affected by a range of developmental, social, religious, ethnic, cultural and linguistic influences.
Q28 Support and guide learners to reflect on their learning, identify the progress they have made and identify their emerging learning needs
Q29 Evaluate the impact of their teaching on the progress of all learners, and modify their planning and classroom practice where necessary.
In my opinion, teachers should believe in the capacity that children have to learn and never think that they cannot be good, skilful or clever students. Teachers have to bear in mind that students will learn better if they use different strategies and also that, during the process of learning, they are influenced by external and internal factors. They should act the role of an enabler teacher and be flexible about the classroom practice.

  22. I´ve read all the standards and I disagree with Q21 “Know how to identify and support children (…) whose progress, development or well-being is affected by changes or difficulties in their personal circumstances”. We are trained to teach English and I don´t think we have the capacity to identify a student who is affected in personal circumstances or not, it´s true, we all have problems. We need to be aware of some particular cases, but, I don´t think it is possible to know every single student and detect their difficulties. We are not doctors or psychologists. Although we have the will to help our students in all their personal problems, we don´t have that job. At schools might be professionals to do that.
Q1 and Q2: Relationship. These items are two of the most important because teachers and adults in general have to have high expectations of children. They need to be encouraged by experienced people. As a consequence children will work better and feel more comfortable in the classroom when they talk, write, read and listen in English. Besides teachers have to show a positive behaviour in front their students and demonstrate respectful. As the proverb says “you get what you give”.
Q8: Personal professional development. I choose this because I think there are a lot of adult teachers who don´t want to change their structural way of teaching. They may not feel comfortable applying technology in their plans or lessons. In order to improve pronunciation, to enlarge vocabulary and much more activities, we can suggest thousand of secure web pages for them to practice their English. To do this, we need to know what web pages and what activities suggest to them. We need to motivate them and innovate to make more attractive our lessons.
Q10: Teaching and learning. As we are teaching a foreign language we need to know different strategies to apply, how to use and adapt them to each group. It is not an easy job to find the way to teach English to a group of thirty students. To help us there are different theories and methods of learning that we should know and apply.
Q32: Team working and collaboration. Working in group is a very significant activity to teach students the importance of working with others. They share a lot of time together and it is very useful to encourage children to work among them. There is always someone who knows a bit more of English than others. It is enriching and profitable for them and for us, as teachers.

  23. 1- There isn’t any standard I disagree with. Moreover, I think all of them are highly valuable and must be present in every teacher of English in order for them to achieve a successful learning process in their students.
2-  “Q1”. I think this standard is important because it states in which way teachers must relate to their students as to create a comfortable atmosphere for learning.

“Q4”. I believe that communication is essential in order to transmit knowledge, ideas and opinions so this standard is very important because it emphasizes “communication” as a vital tool for teachers.

 “Q28”. This standard is important because teachers must be aware of the achievements their students have made and of the skills they have developed in order to encourage them to keep on learning.

 “Q31”. I believe this standard is important because teachers must create a comfortable atmosphere in the classroom and manage students’ behavior constructively as to produce a proper environment for learning.

 “Q32”. This standard is very important because group-work among teachers is a highly beneficial tool as for them to share knowledge, opinions, ideas, projects, theories and many practices that can be useful when teaching in the classroom

  24. I don't disagree with any standard, I think any future teacher must know and understand these standards to become a good teacher.
In my opinion, these are the five most important standards that would apply to qualified teachers of English in Argentina:
Q1. Have high expectations of children and young people including a
commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational
potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and
    constructive relationships with them.
Q4. Communicate effectively with children, young people, colleagues, parents
    and carers.
Q10. Have a knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching, learning and
behaviour management strategies and know how to use and adapt them,
including how to personalise learning and provide opportunities for all
    learners to achieve their potential.
Q18. Understand how children and young people develop and that the progress
and well-being of learners are affected by a range of developmental,
social, religious, ethnic, cultural and linguistic influences.
Q27. Provide timely, accurate and constructive feedback on learners’
attainment, progress and areas for development.
I think that relationship between teachers and students is very important; we have to try to create a good relationship to be able to achieve a successful learning process. We have to know that children are different and take into account different teaching strategies.

  25. As far as I concerned, I don’t actually disagree with any of the standards. In fact, all of them seem to be necessary in order to build up the basis to be a “good” teacher.

On the other hand, I consider these the five most important standards:
Q1 Have high expectations of children and young people including a commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with them.
Q2 Demonstrate the positive values, attitudes and behaviour they expect from children and young people.

I think that both principles are important because the fact that teachers prepare children and young people to be able to acquire knowledge in a safe and comfortable environment is essential. This is a job that should be accompanied by teachers, the whole educational institution and families as well.

Q32 Work as a team member and identify opportunities for working with colleagues, sharing the development of effective practice with them.

All these three previous standards are also important to me since the cultural similarities and differences should be taken into consideration when planning and designing in order to explode all the learners’ potential. It is also important for this matter the team-working to develop values and good relationships among human beings.

  26. I don't disagree with any of the standard. In my opinion the most important standars are:
Q1:Have high expectations of children and young people including a
commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational
potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with them.
Q4:Communicate effectively with children, young people, colleagues, parents and carers.
Q22:Plan for progression across the age and ability range for which they are trained, designing effective learning sequences within lessons and across series of lessons and demonstrating secure subject/curriculum knowledge.
Q30: Establish a purposeful and safe learning environment conducive to learning and identify opportunities for learners to learn in out-of-school contexts.
Q32: Work as a team member and identify opportunities for working with colleagues, sharing the development of effective practice with them.
In my opinion these are the most important because if we followed them, we will able to deliver succeesful classes.

  27. I agree with all the standards shown.
The five most important ones are:

Q1 and Q2- Teachers have to be commetted to help their students so that they can achieve their educational potential. They also have to show them all the positives values they are expected to have.

Q18 and Q10- It is very important to know and to take into account students` individuality in order to give them what they need for their development. To do that, a teacher must have the necessary knowledge and understanding to act according to each situation and each student.

Q28- It is essential that teachers provide their students feedback because they need to reflect on their progress and on learning they could not achieve yet.

  28. I disagree with the standard Q33 that says: "Ensure that colleagues working with them are appropriately involved in supporting learning and understand the roles they are expected to fulfill."
In my opinion, a teacher should very well know what He/she is expected to do. A teacher must support and guide learners to develop their skills and abilities and to create a good atmosphere within the classroom. In other words, every single teacher must be aware of what he/she is doing in the teaching process.

These are the five most important standards to me:
1- Have a secure knowledge and understanding of their subjects/curriculum areas and related pedagogy to enable them to teach effectively across the age and ability range for which they are trained.(The knowledge of the subject matter is essential to be aware of what is going to be teached.)
2- Support and guide learners to reflect on their learning, identify the progress they have made and identify their emerging learning needs. (As Howard Gardner says, we do not learn in the same way because we are all different and we have different needs.)
3- Have a knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching, learning and bahaviour management strategies and know how to use and adopt them, including how to personalise learning and provide opportunities for all learners to achieve their potential. ( If teacher can manage these points in the classroom, he/she will be able to develop a meaningful learning atmosphere.)
4- Demonstrate the possitive values, attitudes and behaviour they expect from children and young people. (If the teacher does this he/she will guide students to success. On the other hand, if she/he does the opposite he/she could drag them down to failure.)
5- Work as a team member and identify opportunities for working with colleagues, sharing the development of effective practice with them. (I´ve had disagree with the idea of making sure that colleagues working with tem know what thy are expected to fulfill. However,I strongly agree with point 5 because, i think that to work as a team is the best way for students to get to knowledge. Perhaps this could sound a bit confusing, but I am talking about working as a team and not as a controller as the standard would suggest.
A teacher must do the best for the student.)

    1. Dear All:

According to my point of view, i agree with all the standars that are shown in the article. The five most important ones are:

Q1. Have high expectations of children and young people including a commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive reslationships with them.

It is important for teachers to be conscious and respectful about this standard because they have to help students to develop thier educational potential, to learn values in order to get a good relationship and comunication between them and the society.

Q18.Understand how children and young people develop and that the progress and well- being of learners are affected by a range of developmental, social, religious, ethnic, cultural and linguistic influences.
Q19. Work with the diversity and promote equality.

I believe that it is really necessary for teachers to be aware of these standars because they have to addapt the lessons according to the characteristics of their learners trying to include them in a single group but respecting thier differences about their own cultural, social, religious, etc aspects.

Q4.Communicative effectively with children, young people, colleagues, parents and cares.
Q32.Work as a team member and identify opportunities for working with colleagues, sharing the development of effective practice with them.

I think that these two standars should be thought carefully when plannig lessons, since communication is the most impotant characteristi of a language. Teachers should be communicative with children and young people not only in the classroom but also with colleagues, parents and community in order to be able to deliver significant classes for learners.

  29. I am totally convinced that teachers have to be aware that students can have problems in their process of learning for different reasons. These ones could be related to personal circumstances which in most of the cases cause several difficulties that affect the progress and development in children and young people. However, I do not agree at all with standard 21) a). This establishes: “know how to identify and support children and young people whose progress, development or well-being is affected by changes or difficulties in their personal circumstances, and when to refer them to colleagues for specialist support”. Whenever a teacher perceives that a student has a problem, he will be willing to help him because before to be a professional, he is a human being with the capacity of understanding. But sometimes, the teacher does not realize if a child has a personal problem that consequently affects his progress in learning. The teacher does not do it on purpose, but simply because he was not formed to detect and deal with the several kinds of problems that the students have in their personal life. His formation was connected with a specific area of knowledge, but not with psychology. Although he has some notions in pedagogy area, they are not enough to face students’ problems. The other reason is that in our country, teachers generally do not work with a commitment of psychology or other specialists who are definitely attached to this task, simply because they are prepared to face these situations. In addition, I think that psychologists should be present in the classrooms to support students and help them to improve in their learning.
The five most important standards that would apply to qualified teachers of English in Argentina are:
    1) Q4: “COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY WITH CHILDREN, YOUNG PEOPLE, COLLEAGUES, PARENTS AND CARERS” It is very important the use of English when we interact with other people since is the only way that students have to acquire this foreign language. Teachers MUST communicate with the students in English to encourage them to improve their pronunciation and achieve the fluency. Teachers must speak English among them in order to be models for his students and help them to attain the main goal: the perception. However, it does not happen in many schools in our country where teachers of English typically speak Spanish. This is a serious problem and really worries me.
    2) Q14 “HAVE A SECURE KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THEIR SUBJECTS/CURRICULUM AREAS AND RELATED PEDAGOGY TO ENABLE THEM TO TEACH EFFECTIVELY ACROSS THE AGE AND ABILITY RANGE FOR WHICH THEY ARE TRAINED” This one is fundamental for English teachers. If an English teacher does not know his object of study he will be able to teach nothing. The difference with other subjects is that this professional must speak English since the main purpose of the teaching of this language is TO USE IT. Students need a secure teacher who can guide them to work on production and perception of the language. if he does not know English, the task inevitably will fail.
    3) Q28 “SUPPORT AND GUIDE LEARNERS TO REFLECT ON THEIR LEARNING, IDENTIFY THE PROGRESS THEY HAVE MADE AND IDENTIFY THEIR EMERGING LEARNING NEEDS”. In the teaching of English, this standard is very important because when the teacher makes the student notice his progress in the production of English , he feels self-confidence and

    ReplyDelete
  30. motivated to continue learning and using the language. A good strategy is to let the student speak freely in English, correcting him when he makes mistakes, but it is not good to make it all the time, at least he produces errors that need to be pointed out, because it can provoke the inhibition of the child and he probably would not participate any more.
    4) Q29 “EVALUATE THE IMPACT OF THEIR TEACHING ON THE PROGRESS OF ALL LEARNERS, AND MODIFY THEIR PLANNING AND CLASSROOM PRACTICE WHEN NECESSARY”. It is common that English is not the favourite subject among students. For this reason it is important that the teacher can find alternatives to provoke interest in his students using the language. the idea is that students can enjoy their English classes and
    simultaneously to learn.
    5) Q30 “ESTABLISH A PURPOSEFUL AND SELF LEARNING ENVIRONMENT TO LEARNING AND IDENTIFY OPPORTUNITIES FOR LEARNERS TO LEARN IN OUT-OF-SCHOOL CONTEXTS”. Sometimes, some schools plan to do a different English lesson. There are different alternative contexts in which students can work and do different activities related to English. Many bilingual schools, for example, give the opportunity to travel abroad. This out-of-school context allows students to know a different culture and put into practice the use of English with native speakers. THIS IS A REAL CHALLENGE!

  31. After reading the article, I can say that I don´t disagree with any standard. But I do think that is impossible for a teacher to carry out all of them. I also think that a teacher might get to all standards only by experience, and experience can´t be neither taught nor transmited.
To me, the five most important standards that would apply in argentina are:
    1) Q2 Demonstrate the positive values, attitudes and behaviour they expect
    from children and young people.

I think it essential to transmit values to learners. Respect is a paramount feature in the relationship between teachers and students.
    2) Q20 (b) Know how to identify and support children and young people whose
progress, development or well-being is affected by changes or
difficulties in their personal circumstances, and when to refer them to colleagues for specialist support.

Teachers might identify their students´difficulties in the learning process, but I think they are not fully prepared to deal with students´personal circunstancies. So it is good for them to know when to ask for specialist support.
    3) Q24 Plan homework or other out-of-class work to sustain learners’ progress
and to extend and consolidate their learning.

In my opinion, it is very important for learners to work on their own, and try to develop their independence. So it may be very useful for them to learn how to investigate by themselves, and meet their own capacities.
    4) Q28 Support and guide learners to reflect on their learning, identify the
progress they have made and identify their emerging learning needs.

As in Q24, supporting students to reflect on their learning might help them to build their independence.
    5) Q29 Evaluate the impact of their teaching on the progress of all learners,
and modify their planning and classroom practice where necessary.

I think that this standard is important because teachers must have the ability to modify their teaching according to his/her students´ necessities. And, as society is constantly changing, teachers must adapt to the context.

  32. I don't disagree with any of these standards. I consider them very useful advises to become good teachers. They are focused on every single detail we, as teachers, need. However, i think that a lot of them are impossible to reach because nowadays we are performing one the most complicated work. it would wonderful to reach every features that those standards described, but i don't think it possible for us today. In my opinion, we can select some of them that can be reached for us. for example.
Q1 Have high expectations of children and young people including a commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with them [This is of paramount importance because we won’t do our best to teach unless we are convinced that our students can achieve whatever they set out to do]
Q2 Demonstrate the positive values, attitudes and behaviour they expect from children and young people [As we always say, we should educate by setting the example].
Q28 Support and guide learners to reflect on their learning, identify the
progress they have made and identify their emerging learning needs.
Q29 Evaluate the impact of their teaching on the progress of all learners,
and modify their planning and classroom practice where necessary.

  33. I don’t disagree with any of the standards described in the article. I think they are of a great help for us to become teachers /professionals of a high standard.
In my opinion, the five most important standards that would apply to qualified teachers of English in Argentina are:
Q1: “Have high expectations of children and young people including a commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with them.”
Q2: “Demonstrate the positive values, attitudes and behaviour they expect from children and young people.”
I think it must be the teacher who demonstrates children and young people positive values because it’s not a matter of which subject we are teachers of but which kind of people we want them to be. It will allow children to create a good relationship among them which will make classrooms good places to teach in and it will also help them to achieve their full educational potential as long as teachers were committed.
Q18: “Understand how children and young people develop and that the progress and well-being of learners are affected by a range of developmental, social, religious, ethnic, cultural and linguistic influences.”
Teachers have to understand children developmental processes and, also, that every child is different. That’s why individuality appears, not all children learn in the same way, nor have the same kind of life. Teachers must recognize it and try to do their best so that children could learn.
Q28: “Support and guide learners to reflect on their learning, identify the progress they have made and identify their emerging learning needs.”
Teachers have to be present in their students’ process of acquiring this new language. They have to help students and let them demonstrate what they know by giving them feedbacks that make students realise what their problems are, though, it isn’t good to correct them all what they do/say as it could possibly make them feel timid in future occasions.
Q32: “Work as a team member and identify opportunities for working with colleagues, sharing the development of effective practice with them.”
It’s important for teachers to work with colleagues as it could let them implement some strategies when teaching because they can teach some things related to other subjects which would make the student acquire knowledge easier as everything will be related.

The five most important standards that would apply in Argentina are:

Q18: it is important to take into account that learners are affected by a range of developmental, social, religious, etnic, cultural and linguistic influences. All these things can produce effects on their learning process.

Q28: teachers should guide learners to reflect on their learning. This reflection will help them to identify their progress and their learning needs.

  35. I agree with all standards developed in the article and I would like to add that teachers must not only qualify academically but also qualify psychologically, because we are working with individuals, which implies a great responsibility and balance. A misconception may be able to be corrected but an inappropriate word can affect the other. As teachers, there are other commitments that we undertake. One of them is improve our knowledge, that is, to be updated despite the experience gained.
From my point of view, the five most important standards are Q1, Q2, Q19, Q25, and Q32. Because they point to outline the importance of teamwork, feedback in communication, respect for diversity, management of appropriate strategies to encourage and develop the potential of all students to achieve satisfactory results.

  36. I agree with all the standards, I think that every point adds characteristics which are very important to take into account. Some of the standards take time to develop or put into practice but it’s good to know them and understand them in order to give our students a good experience of the processes of learning and teaching. Putting into practice all the standards is not an easy job but understanding them is a first step towards a change in our practice of teaching.
In my opinion, the five most important standards that would apply to qualified teachers of English in Argentina are:

Q1: “Have high expectations of children and young people including a
commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational
potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with them.”

I think that this standard is important because the relationship between the teacher and the student have to create a relaxed atmosphere to make the process of teaching and learning natural.

Q4: “Communicate effectively with children, young people, colleagues, parents and cares.”
An effective communication is needed in order to avoid misunderstandings. That is why is important to have good communication skills.

Q10: I have chosen this standard because it is important for teachers to know the strategies to make the students achieve their potential. We need to have the useful tools to understand the processes of learning of our students, as well as, the process of teaching. In this way, the learners will be excited to do their best.

Q21 (b): We have to understand that our students may have personal problems at home which influenced their process of learning. So we need to help the students to get confidence in their capacities in order to make them feel better. The teachers need to have confidence in their students.

Q29: “Evaluate the impact of their teaching on the progress of all learners, and modify their planning and classroom practice where necessary”. The teachers need to be flexible enough to be able to change what they had planned. They will have to
take into account the context where they are teaching.

I thimk that the five most important standards that would apply to Argentina are:
Q1 and Q2.- both standards stablish the good relationship that we should have with our students. I consider that with young people, a respectful relationship would be rather meaninful for them because they are in a society where they are not included and we, as teacher, should not be influence by those thoughts.
Q18 and Q19.- I think that teachers should take into account that every child is different and their learning process would be influenced by the context they live.

  39. (I'm posting this again just in case)
I disagree with Q29 because sometimes it’s difficult to change or modify the planning or practise classroom when there are few students with some learning difficulties. Sometimes it can be boring for the other students in the class who have no learning problems and understand well the different topics that are given in class. Despite this, I think that is not completely imposible through individual tasks focus on each difficulties of every student problems, to get their progress.

It would be wonderful that if with just a framework teachers could manage behaviour in the classroom. But nowadays, the majority of the students don’t see the teacher with respect, they have a worse behaviour day after day and it’s difficult to reach a dicipline enviroment in class because they bring a bad behaviour from their homes. Even teachers can’t count on the support of their parents because many times they are even worse than their children. That’s the reason why I dissagree with Q31.

The 5 most important standards for me are:

Q1 and Q2 because to reach the goal of a good learning, it’s very important to get a good relationship between the teacher and parents and colleages.

Q10 is so good because it’s important to have different strategies to use them to get that every student achieve their potential to get knowledge.

I totally agree with Q24 because it’s so good to keep on practicing outside the classroom with homework or going out to visit places to practice the language is so good.
It’s good to work with colleage because they teach in the same way with the same strategies and/or ideas which is good for learners and teachers can learn one from the other.that’s why Q32 is one of the most important for me

  40. I agree with all the standards, I think that are useful and that they express important points to take into account. However it is difficult for me to think a teacher in terms of qualifications. There are a lot of good teachers, very well qualificated, with such a big knowledge, but If you do not know how to share that wisdom, if you are contemptuous, if you understimate the students, if you think that you are the only one that knows, qualifications are just that.
From my point of view the five most important standards are:
Q1"Have high expectations of children and young people including a commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with them." Create a comfortable atmosphere. Encourage children to reach to the goals and help them to face the odds.
Q2"Demonstrate the positive values, attitudes and behaviour they expect from children and young people." Practise what we preach. Be respectful for the people, and for the place where all of us coexist. Educate by giving the example.
Q5 "Recognise and respect the contribution that colleagues, parents and carers
can make to the development and well-being of children and young
people, and to raising their levels of attainment.
Relationships with children and young people" Be opened to the suggestions that colleagues, parents and cares can make, is good and can enrich and improve the children's learning and our teaching.
Q21 (b)" Know how to identify and support children and young people whose
progress, development or well-being is affected by changes or
difficulties in their personal circumstances, and when to refer them to colleagues for specialist support". Be sensitive to identify the situation in which the student is, help him/her to solve the problem. Think wisely the way in which help him/her.
Q28"Support and guide learners to reflect on their learning, identify the progress they have made and identify their emerging learning needs". Help students in their learning process, build bridges between them and us to enrich the knowledge.

  42. I don’t disagree with any of the standards. I think that each of them describe a desirable characteristic in a teacher. I don’t know if the standards I’ve chosen are the most important, but I consider them very valuable.
Q1) Have high expectations of children and young people including a commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with them.

I think that believing that we can be better and that we can achieve difficult things is what makes us doing it. The same happens with students. If we believe in them they will believe in themselves, which will make them reach whatever they want.

Q7 a) Reflect on and improve their practice, and take responsibility for identifying and meeting their developing professional needs.

I think that being critical with oneself and our own work is what makes us better. If we can´t see what we are doing wrong we´ll always do it wrong.

Q19) Know how to make effective personalised provision for those they teach, including those for whom English is an additional language or who have special educational needs or disabilities, and how to take practical account of diversity and promote equality and inclusion in their teaching.

I think that people are different in many ways and all of us have different abilities and disabilities. When we teach we have to bear in mind this idea and try to think of all the possible ways we can help our students.

Q 21) Know how to identify and support children and young people whose progress, development or well-being is affected by changes or difficulties in their personal circumstances, and when to refer them to colleagues for specialist support.

I consider this an important aspect because we all have been students and we know that personal circumstances always affect our performance, progress and well-being. However, I think that this is the weakest part in our formation as professionals. Everybody says that we’ll have to be supportive and deal with difficult situations but nobody tells us how.

Q28) Support and guide learners to reflect on their learning, identify the progress they have made and identify their emerging learning needs.

Teachers will not always be there to guide students. That’s why I think that teaching our students to be self-sufficient and independent is really important. It´s of great importance to be able to identify their progress and needs so as to keep on working o that, as well.

  43. 1. I do not disagree with any of the standards. I think they are very important and we should take them into account because these standards will allow us to improve as teachers.

Q1 Have high expectations of children and young people including a commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with them. (It is really important that we trust in our students and thus they be able to achieve their full potential.)

Q6 Have a commitment to collaboration and co-operative working. (We, as teachers, have to work cooperatively and know the other members in the school where we work.)

Q10 Have a knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching, learning and
behaviour management strategies and know how to use and adapt them, including how to personalise learning and provide opportunities for all learners to achieve their potential. (This matter is of paramount importance because we must be able to use different ways of teaching strategies. We know that not all the students learn in the same way hence it is vital to use different strategies for teaching.)

Q14 Understand how children and young people develop and that the progress and well-being of learners are affected by a range of developmental, social, religious, ethnic, cultural and linguistic influences. (Learning is a process and we must take into account that each student progress in a different way because of several factors that affect them.)

Q30 Establish a purposeful and safe learning environment conducive to learning and identify opportunities for learners to learn in out-of-school contexts. (I think it is important to provide students opportunities to work with real materials and to let them know that they can use what they learn outside the classroom.)

  44. I don’t disagree with any of the standards in “Qualified Teachers’ Standards”. I think some of them are more important than the others, but they are all reasonably stated.
I have chosen the following standards that would apply to qualified teachers of English in Argentina:
    a) Q1- “Have high expectations of children and young people including a commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with them.”
This standard is very important because part of children’s motivation for learning is to know that we always expect more from them. So not only do we have to take this standard into consideration but also let students know of our expectations. And of course, we have to offer them all the possibilities available to increase their potential.
    b) Q10- “Have a knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching, learning and behaviour management strategies and know how to use and adapt them, including how to personalise learning and provide opportunities for all learners to achieve their potential.”
I think this standard is important because this is what we receive and learn in the teacher training colleges in Argentina, and because English is not the only thing we have to know. We have to know how to deal with our students’ learning process and how to manage with the different classroom situations.
    c) Q21- “(...) Know how to identify and support children and young people whose progress, development or well-being is affected by changes or difficulties in their personal circumstances, and when to refer them to colleagues for specialist support.”
I have chosen this standard because it is very important to get involved with our students’ difficulties inside and outside the classroom.
    d) Q25- “(...) build on prior knowledge, develop concepts and processes, enable learners to apply new knowledge, understanding and skills and meet learning objectives (...)”
This item is very important because it promotes teacher scaffolding. We should always teach children based on their previous knowledge so as not create gaps of information in their learning process.
    e) Q29- “Evaluate the impact of their teaching on the progress of all learners, and modify their planning and classroom practice where necessary.2
When we are planning we have to be aware of the fact that what we plan will be modified according to the different groups we have. This can happen before giving the class, while we are in the class or after it.

  45. I don’t disagree with any standard. Some maybe more relevant than others but I , personally, don’t disagree with any.

The five standards that I consider most important are:

    Q1
“Have high expectations of children and young people including a
commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational
potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and
    constructive relationships with them.”

I think this is very important as it helps to motivate learners and having fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships is the best way to create a rich learning environment.

    Q10
“Have a knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching, learning and
behaviour management strategies and know how to use and adapt them,
including how to personalise learning and provide opportunities for all
    learners to achieve their potential.”

It is necessary for a teacher to take into account different teaching, learning and behaviour management strategies so that students, all equally, can have meaningful learning experiences and also it is necessary that the teacher can adapt these strategies to learners’ needs, interests and specific social and cultural context.

    Q14
“Have a secure knowledge and understanding of their subjects/curriculum
areas and related pedagogy to enable them to teach effectively across the
age and ability range for which they are trained.”

    And

    Q22
“Plan for progression across the age and ability range for which they are
trained, designing effective learning sequences within lessons and across
series of lessons and demonstrating secure subject/curriculum knowledge”

It is vital for a teacher to know very well the subject matter and the best way of teaching it through planning and designing effective learning sequences, bearing in mind elements of pedagogy.

    Q27
“Provide timely, accurate and constructive feedback on learners’
attainment, progress and areas for development.”

In standard number 17 I am giving my opinion in view of my experience as a student because I don’t have any experience in teaching yet. Anyway, I believe this status to be very helpful for students in their process of learning.

    1. I don’t disagree with any of the standard and I consider all of them are important too.
From my point of view, these are the five most relevant standards:

Q1. I think this standard is very important because children need to be encouraged and need to know that we trust in them.

Q4. I consider that communication is essential for a better learning process. Not only communication with children, but also with colleagues and parents.

Q8. It is necessary for teachers to adapt its structures and teaching methods in order to improve the lessons.

Q18. It is important that a teacher takes into account children’s differences, but it is also important that children could learn to accept those differences and the whole class work on that.

Q.32 Team working and collaboration with other teachers will help the students to develop meaningful learning process.

  47. a. “Have high expectations of children and young people including a
commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational
potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with them.”

    b. "Be aware of the policies and practices of the workplace and share in collective responsibility for their implementation."

c."Demonstrate the positive values, attitudes and behaviour they expect from children and young people."

d."Support and guide learners to reflect on their learning, identify the progress they have made and identify their emerging learning needs."

e."Evaluate the impact of their teaching on the progress of all learners, and modify their planning and classroom practice where necessary."

First of all, I don't disagree with any standard at all. In fact, I consider items A, B and C significant since in my opinion, education does not only mean the act of learning curricular contents, but it also means learning values which have a direct influence on students’ life. To me, items D and E are ones of the most relevant because we should focus on the learning process of each student rather than taking into consideration only the results. We know that learning has to do with an internal process and it is absolutely necessary for children to feel guided and supported during the whole learning process. Moreover, the last item is highly important in terms of favouring meaningful learning. In order to achieve flexible classes, we should adapt our daily class planning to the real necessities of the students.
Last but not less important, I consider these 5 items relevant to our work because they would help us grow in our vocation for teaching English. I think that we should take them into account if we want to improve in our work in a very committed way.

  48. 1) I think that every standard mentioned here in the text is very important for us.I think we should try hard to get this levels, and in case we can´t, we must do our bests to improve.

    2) I think that there are three items that should be important for us as teachers of English:

Q8-Have a creative and constructively critical approach towards innovation,
being prepared to adapt their practice where benefits and improvements
    are identified.

  49. Although I do not disagree with any standard, I think that it is very difficult for a teacher to bear all this standards in mind in the teaching moment. However, all of them are important and should be taken into consideration in order to give our best to our students.

To my view, the five most important standards that would apply to qualified teachers of English in Argentina are:

Q1- Have high expectations of children and young people including a
commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational
potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and
constructive relationships with them. I think a teacher should always believe that their students can achieve any goal. If not children can feel discouraged and fail.

Q2- Demonstrate the positive values, attitudes and behaviour they expect
from children and young people. A teacher should low the affective filter and be positive in order to create a good place to work.

Q10- Have a knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching, learning and
behaviour management strategies and know how to use and adapt them,
including how to personalise learning and provide opportunities for all
learners to achieve their potential. A teacher should know a variety of methods and approaches in order to be able to choose the best options among them, being able to justify his/her choices.

Q14- Have a secure knowledge and understanding of their subjects/curriculum
areas and related pedagogy to enable them to teach effectively across the
age and ability range for which they are trained. A teacher should be an expert in his/her subject in order to teach accurately and be able to know why, what, how, to whom and why to teach.

Q18- Understand how children and young people develop and that the progress
and well-being of learners are affected by a range of developmental,
social, religious, ethnic, cultural and linguistic influences. A teacher should be aware of how a student learns and how environments influences the learning processes in order to take advantage of all this factors and help the students.

Q21. (a) Be aware of the current legal requirements, national policies and
guidance on the safeguarding and promotion of the well-being of
    children and young people.
    (b) Know how to identify and support children and young people whose

Q2 - Demonstrate the positive values, attitudes and behaviour they expect from children and young people.

To my mind, teachers should always be an example to their students, not only of qualified and responsible professionals, but also of responsible, conscious and caring human beings.

Q10 - Have a knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching, learning and behaviour management strategies and know how to use and adapt them, including how to personalise learning and provide opportunities for all learners to achieve their potential.

I consider that teachers should pay great deal of attention to their students’ needs and have the tools to adapt their teaching strategies to the different kinds of students’ personalities and interests.

Q18- Understand how children and young people develop and that the progress
and well-being of learners are affected by a range of developmental, social, religious, ethnic, cultural and linguistic influences.

Teachers should take into account and reflect upon the important influence that culture has on the students’ learning process.

Q22 - Plan for progression across the age and ability range for which they are trained, designing effective learning sequences within lessons and across series of lessons and demonstrating secure subject/curriculum knowledge.

In my opinion, teachers should be able to create well interrelated plans so as to maximize the students’ possibilities of learning the language.

  52. I only found difficult Q21-b. I admit that it is important to identify students whose progress or development is affected by changes or difficulties in their personal circumstances. But I don´t know if teachers are well trained for this.
To me, the most important standards that would apply to qualified teachers of Argentina are:
“Q1 Have high expectations of children and young people including a commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with them.” I chose this because it is necessary that teachers respect, support and show that they trust in their students. In this way teachers help to create a good atmosphere in which their students feel comfortable, believe in their capacities and can achieve their own aims.

“Q10 Have knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching, learning and behaviour management strategies and know how to use and adapt them, including how to personalize learning and provide opportunities for all learners to achieve their potential.” As we know some students need more time to learn and we should take into account that students learn in different ways. So teachers should know what strategies they can use to help children and how to restructure lessons.
“Q14 Have a secure knowledge and understanding of their subject/curriculum areas and related pedagogy to enable them to teach effectively across the age and ability range for which they are trained”. It is essential that teachers know their object of study well. If a teacher of English does not know how to pronounce or does not respect grammar rules, his/her lack of knowledge and responsibility will affect the students´ learning. But it is not enough to know the object of study. There are teachers who know a lot of English but they don´t know how to help their students to learn. I have learned that teaching does not always lead to learning.
“Q28 Support and guide learners to reflect on their learning, identify the progress they have made and identify their emerging learning needs" In my opinion, this is really important because this shows that it is necessary to bear in mind that the learner is active. He reflects on his own learning and he can organize, develop and look deeply into his knowledge. Besides, supporting and guiding learners are part of teachers’ roles. These roles depend on the context. Sometimes, teachers have to organize, observe students, encourage and guide them.
“Q29 Evaluate the impact of their teaching on the progress of all learners, and modify their planning and classroom practice where necessary.” Each group is unique and has different needs. So it is worth modifying the planning and the classroom practices because in this way teachers can help them in the process of learning.

  53. Q1: I think this standard is important because it states in which way teachers must relate to their students so as to create a comfortable atmosphere for learning.
Q6: “Have a commitment to collaboration and co-operative working”
Teachers should always work cooperatively to ensure the engagement of both teachers and learners.
Q7: “Reflect on and improve their practice and take responsibility for identifying and meeting their developing professional needs”. The social and cultural context in which education occurs changes permanently and we need to consider that we are immerged in that changing context.
Q28 “Support and guide learners to reflect on their learning, identify the progress they have made and identify their emerging learning needs”. I think that metacognition is usually neglected by most teachers. We need to recognize how important this aspect is if we want our students to think in a critical way.
Q29 “Evaluate the impact of their teaching on the progress of all learners, and modify their planning and classroom practice when necessary”. We need to be flexible considering the needs of the group in general and of each learner in particular.

  54. From my point of view, all the standards are important. That is why I do not disagree with any of them. However, I think that some of them are more significant than others.
In my opinion, the five most important standards that would apply to qualified teachers of English in Argentina are:

Q1: “Have high expectations of children and young people including a commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with them.” Clearly, teachers should respect and support their students, since this will encourage them to be more confident. Besides, this will help to create a good atmosphere for learning.

Q8: “Have a creative and constructively critical approach towards innovation, being prepared to adapt their practice where benefits and improvements are identified.” It is my belief that, as teachers, we should adapt our practice in order to help our students to get to their own understanding of the content, since all human beings learn in a different way.

Q10: “Have a knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching, learning and
behaviour management strategies and know how to use and adapt them, including how to personalise learning and provide opportunities for all learners to achieve their potential.” I think that this standard is related to Q8 because a teacher who adapts his/her practice taking into account his/her students’ necessities and interests is someone who provides opportunities for all the students to construct their own version of reality.

Q28: “Support and guide learners to reflect on their learning, identify the progress they have made and identify their emerging learning needs.” I totally agree with this standard, since I think that to support and guide our students will bring significant changes in our educational system, as most teachers do not take into account their students’ points of view nowadays.

Q29: “Evaluate the impact of their teaching on the progress of all learners, and modify their planning and classroom practice where necessary.” To my way of thinking, teachers should try to improve their own way of teaching and planning because, as I see it, teaching is a process in which we learn new things every day.

  55. As regards the article “Qualified Teachers Standards” I don´t disagree with any standard. I think that each standard is useful for our development.
These are the most important in my opinion.
Q1 Have high expectations of children and young people including a commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with them.
Q10 Have a knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching, learning and behaviour management strategies and know how to use and adapt them, including how to personalize learning and provide opportunities for all learners to achieve their potential.
Q18 Understand how children and young people develop and that the progress and well-being of learners are affected by a range of developmental, social, religious, ethnic, cultural and linguistic influences.
Q30: Establish a purposeful and safe learning environment conducive to learning and identify opportunities for learners to learn in out-of-school contexts.
Q32: Work as a team member and identify opportunities for working with colleagues, sharing the development of effective practice with them.

  56. I believe that all of them are important and necessary. However, I consider that the most important standards that would be applied to qualified teachers of English in Argentina are:

1)Have high expectations of children and young people including a commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with them.
I think that a good teacher will always believe that his/her students can achieve any goal and I also consider that fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with students are extremely relevant for helping students to feel confident . A good teacher not only teaches contents but also leaves a mark in the students’ lives.
2)Have a knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching, learning and behaviour management strategies and know how to use and adapt them, including how to personalize learning and provide opportunities for all learners to achieve their potential.
I truly believe that good teachers are the ones who implement all the possible strategies with the purpose of helping students to understand and build the needed contents (not only for passing a school subject but also for facing life.)
3)Have a secure knowledge and understanding of their subjects/curriculum areas and related pedagogy to enable them to teach effectively across the age and ability range for which they are trained.
To me, a good teacher knows quite well all the necessary content to teach students successfully taking into account the age and ability of them.
4)Teach lessons and sequences of lessons across the age and ability range for which they are trained in which they:
    (a) use a range of teaching strategies and resources, including e-learning, taking practical account of diversity and promoting equality and inclusion
    (b) build on prior knowledge, develop concepts and processes, enable learners to apply new knowledge, understanding and skills and meet learning objectives
    (c) adapt their language to suit the learners they teach, introducing new ideas and concepts clearly, and using explanations, questions, discussions and plenaries effectively
    (d) demonstrate the ability to manage the learning of individuals, groups and whole classes, modifying their teaching to suit the stage of the lesson.
Good teachers take into account all those points mention previously in order to create an atmosphere in which students will learn in a meaningful way. For good teacher, it is very important to help students to learn significantly as much as possible.
5)Support and guide learners to reflect on their learning, identify the progress they have made and identify their emerging learning needs.
A good teacher not only focuses his/her attention on students learning as much as possible but also on making them conscious about their own learning to develop critical thinking.

  57. I agree with Lucía on this: "All the standards are important. That is why I do not disagree with any of them."

Yet I consider these standards worth noting:

Q1- Have high expectations of children and young people including a commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with them.

I think that is essential for teachers to establish a good rapport with their studentscreating a nice atmosphere to help them develop fully.

Q2 - Demonstrate the positive values, attitudes and behaviour they expect from children and young people.

Teachers are examples. They need to resemble what they teach.

Q10 - Have a knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching, learning and behaviour management strategies and know how to use and adapt them, including how to personalise learning and provide opportunities for all learners to achieve their potential.

Teachers should be intuitive. They should know how to adapt theirselve to the different learning situations.

Plan should be interrelated to maximize the potential knowledge of what intend to teach.

  58. I agree with all the standards because I believe they are very important and we should take them into account as these standards will allow us to improve as teachers. In my opinion the five most important standards are:
    • Q1. Have high expectations of children and young people including a commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with them.
I think that it is very important that we trust our students because being able to create a meaningful relationship with them will be certainly provide more opportunities for them to achieve their full potential.
    • Q2. Demonstrate the positive values, attitudes and behaviour they expect from children and young people.
I believe that teachers have to be an example or role model to their students. The only way to see a change is being part of that change and, in this sense, transmitting moral values is one the means by which educators will ensure that their students grow up as responsible, conscious and caring human beings.
    • Q6. Have a commitment to collaboration and co-operative working.
We need to work cooperatively and get to know the teachers of the other school subjects, so that we can establish general rules that might benefit of our students.
    • Q10. Have a knowledge and understanding of a range of teaching, learning and
behaviour management strategies and know how to use and adapt them, including how to personalise learning and provide opportunities for all learners to achieve their potential.
I believe that a wide range of teaching strategies is needed as we know that not all students learn in the same way. For this reason, it is vital to use different strategies when teaching.
    • Q30. Establish a purposeful and safe learning environment conducive to learning and identify opportunities for learners to learn in out-of-school contexts.
I think that it is important to provide students with more opportunities to work with authentic materials in class so that they can know how to use the things they learn in school in the real world when they leave school.
